You've picked hard mediums to do art with because it can be difficult to do shading with felt tip pens or with coloured pencils.

Have you tried digital medium or traditional with oils or watercolour? Probably easier to work with.

At the time, I had a hard time with coloring with a computer. Now, it's became a little bit easier on me, but I'm still learning. ^^;

Took me a while to get the hang of it too. I had no idea how to blend one colour into another when I first started and my lineart had a jagged look and wasn't smooth. But the more I used the program the better I got and getting a tablet really helped (very hard to draw curved lines with a mouse but it can be done).
